How Do I Become a Volunteer?
Complete the following steps:
- Complete an application.
- Interview with the Volunteer Coordinator.
- If required, interview with department supervisor.
- Attend volunteer orientation, The Joint Commission safety training and HIPAA confidentiality and privacy training.
- Obtain two-step TB tests.
- Participate in extensive department-specific training.
What Is the Required Commitment?
We ask adult volunteers to commit to a minimum of 100 hours. Volunteer shifts range from three to six hours once a week. We ask teen volunteers to commit to a minimum of 50 hours. During the school year, volunteens serve three-hour shifts. Volunteens may serve longer shifts during the summer.
Is There a Teen Program?
Highline Medical Center has several volunteer programs for teens. Some are school-based programs, such as the Steps to Success program or Occupational Skills Center internships. We also have a program for teens wishing to volunteer after school or on weekends. The benefits of volunteering at Highline Medical Center will vary, depending on the teen.
To become a volunteen, complete an application. You will be called for an interview. Volunteens also are required to attend a volunteer orientation and The Joint Commission safety and HIPAA training and to obtain two TB tests.
Opportunities open to teens ages 14 and 15 include messenger services, information desk and clerical positions.
Opportunities open to teens ages 16 to 17 include all other volunteer opportunities except the Emergency Department. You must be 18 years old to volunteer in the E.D.
