Gifts that Provide for Loved Ones

In an irrevocable Charitable Lead Trust, you, the donor, transfer properties into the name of the trust. The property is now an asset of the trust and no longer a "personal asset" or part of your personal estate. Annual payment from the trust is paid to a Highline Medical Center Foundation for a period of time you specified. At the end of the term, the principle returns to you or is distributed to another beneficiary.

Example: Mrs. Jones has been advised that her estate could be subject to a significant amount of tax at her death. She has four grandchildren, ages 17 through 27. After conferring with her advisors, Mrs. Jones decides to create a trust in her will that will pay an annual sum to a favorite charitable interest for 15 years, with the assets then passing to her grandchildren largely free of any estate tax that may otherwise have been due at the time of her death. In this way, Mrs. Jones makes a meaningful gift while ensuring that assets will ultimately pass to her grandchildren on a tax-favored basis.
