A Volunteer Opportunity for Every Personality

Art Volunteer — Carry out artistic pursuits in a hospital public area or unit or in a patient’s room during scheduled times.

Baker Volunteer — Supplement staff and promote the healing arts philosophy of Planetree by helping to create a homelike environment and pleasant aromas. Use the kitchen in your designated unit to bake cookies and distribute to appropriate patients.

Cancer Center Volunteer — Provide support to staff and comfort measures to patients and their families (coffee, snacks, conversation, etc.) in the Cancer Clinic. Make deliveries and pickups to the lab and pharmacy.

Cancer Resource Volunteer — Supplement staff by providing resources and information from the American Cancer Society (ACS) website, database and 24-hour 1-800 number. Assist with accommodating the needs of walk-in cancer patients and families with wigs, turbans and prostheses from the center. Volunteers in this program must maintain a highlevel of knowledge of ACS programs, Highline Cancer Center and related Highline Medical Center programs, services and community resources.

Central Supply Volunteer — Supplement staff by assisting with unpacking, stocking and placing supply items on shelves. Answer phones and help keep the storeroom clean and neat.

Chart Volunteer — Supplement staff by making patient charts. Gather materials, create charts following a sample and return materials to appropriate location.

Clerical Volunteer — Supplement staff by providing clerical assistance. Volunteers may answer telephones, use office machines and perform data entry and/or word processing, proofreading, photocopying, and filing.

Emergency Volunteer — Supplement staff by keeping rooms clean, putting away supplies, restocking carts, running errands and visiting with patients and patient families, as needed.

ER/OP Admitting Volunteer — Supplement staff to facilitate smooth operations at the ER/Outpatient Registration Desk. Greet patients/visitors, assist with directions and telephones and escort patients to ancillary departments, as needed.

Hospice/Home Care Volunteer — Serve the terminally ill and their families in their homes as well as in nursing homes. Volunteers assist with providing patient care, bereavement support and/or office assistance. All patient care volunteers receive 24 hours of training prior to being assigned to patients.

Messenger Volunteer — Supplement staff by performing a variety of duties throughout the hospital. Assist admitting by escorting patients and family to the appropriate nursing unit. Make deliveries as needed throughout the hospital.

Music Therapy Volunteer — Supplement staff by performing musical programs. Assist staff in music therapy and perform for designated patients.

Nursing Unit Volunteer — Supplement staff by providing a variety of services to help make patients more comfortable during their stay and to help facilitate the smooth flow of work and patient movement. This might include caring for plants/flowers, obtaining papers/books for patients, assisting with delivery of meal trays, transporting patients, answering telephones and patient bells and running errands.

Reader Volunteer — Read to patients to provide comfort and support during their hospital stay.
