Pharmacy Residency Program

ASHP Accredited Residency Program

The Highline Medical Center residency is a one-year post- graduate residency in pharmacy practice.

Clinical rotations assist the residents to expand their knowledge of therapeutics and aid in the development of problem-solving skills. Leadership skills and professionalism will be strengthened through the administrative component of the residency program.

The residency experience is tailored by a learning plan that is established to help the resident achieve individual career goals. A variety of opportunities will be afforded the resident in direct patient care, teaching, and management experience.

This residency is fully accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Residents completing this program have taken positions in a wide variety of practice settings.

Residency Purpose

The purpose of this residency is to assist the resident in developing the necessary clinical judgment needed to manage patient-centered care. This training will be evidence-based and allow the resident to become an integral member of an interdisciplinary team. The resident, upon completion of the program, will be able to provide direct patient-centered care in acute, long-term, or ambulatory settings.

Residency Project

Residents will be required to design, execute, and report results of investigations of pharmacy-practice related issues. A systematic procedure will be utilized to identify potential practice-related issues, perform a comprehensive literature search, draw appropriate conclusions, and generate a research question to be answered by an investigation. A valid conclusion will be drawn based on the collection and analysis of data. The findings of this project will be reported in a manuscript and presented at a regional residency conference or a national pharmacy meeting. If appropriate, publication in a peer-reviewed pharmacy journal will be encouraged.
