Get with the Guidelines™ Coronary Artery Disease Quality Improvement Program
What is the Get with the Guidelines program?
The American Heart Association, in partnership with member hospitals, developed "Get with the Guidelines" to provide a unified approach to cardiovascular quality improvement.
The program is designed as a prospective interventional process, in the hospital setting, to significantly increase compliance with the Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) secondary prevention treatment by the time of discharge.
Hospitals and physicians work together to monitor those factors that make up secondary prevention for the treatment of CHD, including:
- Antiplatelet therapy: the use of angiotensin II blockade
- Beta blockers
- Cholesterol/lipid therapy — statins
- Fibrates
- Niacin
- Diet
- Nutritional counseling referral
- Smoking cessation referral
- Diabetes therapy and education
- Exercise and lifestyle change
- Cardiovascular health and rehabilitation referrals
Prevention is cost-effective, quality care. Working as a team, we can make the Get with the Guidelines program a model that can save at least 80,000 lives a year.
